  AZOV-BLACK SEA BASIN
Mediterranean Sea Black Sea Azov Sea Caspian Sea Aral Sea
The list of species of Decapod Crustaceans
The Azov-Black Sea basin unites the Black and Azov Seas, as well as their catchment basins. Historically, the Caspian Sea is connected with the Azov-Black Sea basin, the connection with which was interrupted about 20 thousand years ago. Currently, the Caspian Sea is isolated from the world ocean, but contains relict species preserved from the fauna of the Great Sarmatian Sea.
The species composition of Decapoda in the Azov-Black Sea basin is unstable. New species are being "introduced" from the Mediterranean Sea and other areas of the world Ocean.
The native species have been disappearing, because there are changes in the environment that no longer meet their needs.
Studies of the Decapoda fauna in the Black and Azov Seas have been conducted for almost two centuries.
The initial description of the fauna in the Azov-Black Sea basin was based on the species known at that time in Europe. Unidentified or misidentified species were often described as new. This state of affairs created considerable confusion when determining the species composition at the first stage of the study. The subsequent stage consisted of a revision of the data of the initial collections, redefinition and re-correlation of species found in the Black Sea with species known from other seas. In total, 179 names of decapod crustaceans for the Azov-Black Sea basin were used in the literature, which caused nomenclature confusion, which did not allow to correctly assess the species composition.
As a result of the revision of the species composition, it was found that as of the beginning of the XXI century, the fauna of decapod crustaceans of the Azov-Black Sea basin consists of 54 species, including 8 registered alien species. (11 species are found only in freshwater reservoirs, 28 are found only in the Black Sea and 15 species are euryhaline) (Anosov, 2016).
