The harbour crab is found in the northeastern Atlantic from the shores of England and Norway to the Azores and Spain, as well as in the seas of the Mediterranean basin and in the Black Sea (Kobyakova, Dolgopolskaya, 1969).
In the Black Sea, it is found only from the south of Sukhumi, off the coast of Turkey and Bulgaria. Some authors considered the mention of this species for the Black Sea to be a mistake (Băcescu, 1967; Makarov, 2004). However, it is known that several specimens of this species, stored in the collection of the Zoological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences in St. Petersburg, were caught off the coast of Anatolia in 1912, during the expedition of S.A. Zernov on board the "Icebreaker No. 1". This confirms the presence of this crab in the Black Sea. In addition, L. depurator is noted in the works of Turkish authors (Ateş, 1999; Ateş et al, 2010; Balkis et al, 2012).
