It is found in the northeastern Atlantic from the coast of Norway to Portugal, as well as in the seas of the Mediterranean basin and in the Black Sea (Kobyakova, Dolgopolskaya, 1969). Numerous species, widespread in all regions of the Black Sea to a depth of 40 m. Prefers sandy soil with shells, but can also be found on silted sand among thickets of zostera. Usually, these crabs actively move on the surface of the ground and, in case of danger, quickly burrow into the sand. Females with eggs on the surface of the sand during daylight hours are not found, but at night they can be found in large numbers within this biotope. In the different places of habitat can be have different colors of individuals. |
