The stone crab is found in the North Atlantic from Great Britain to the Azores and Mauritania (West Africa), in the seas of the Mediterranean basin and in the Black Sea. In the Black Sea, it occurs in all areas in the coastal zone among stones, on rocks, on sand and shells, among algae to a depth of 40 m (Kobyakova, Dolgopolskaya, 1969). At dusk, these crabs sit with their claws spread out among the algae. When kept in an aquarium, a stone crab quickly remains alone, as it destroys other inhabitants of the aquarium. He easily crushes the shells of the rapan and other mollusks, which it mainly feeds on. | ||||
