Infraorder Brachyura // Family Grapsidae // Genus Planes
  Planes minutus (Linnaeus, 1758)
Pelagic crab found on objects floating on the surface of the water. Occurs in the North Atlantic Ocean and the seas adjoining it. In the Black Sea, this species was first recorded in 1867 by I.A. Marcusen in materials from the Odessa Bay. In 1902 V.K. Sovinsky expressed doubts about its presence in the Black Sea, but in 1933 this species was noted "as very common" (Ilyin, 1933) for the Odessa Bay. There were no more reports in the literature about finding this crab in the Black Sea. Perhaps this crab only from time to time enters or gets into the Black Sea with fouling on the hulls of slow-moving ships and for some reason has not formed a stable population. Currently, there is no information about the presence of Planes minutus in the Black Sea.
